Torex has launched the XC9268 series of step-down synchronous DC/DC converters compatible with 36V input and 600mA output, for industrial equipment and consumer appliances having an input source of 12 or 24V. The XC9268 series has a maximum input voltage of 36V, making it suitable for use as a power supply for step-down from a 12 or 24V line. Its low minimum input voltage of 3.0V makes a MAX Duty of 100% possible, so it can also be applied as a component in an input OR circuit used with a backup line.

The operation mode is PWM / PFM automatic switching control. 83% (VIN = 12V, VOUT = 5.0V, IOUT = 1mA) efficiency is realised in the standby load state such as microcontroller. In addition, even with heavy load in the active state, it achieves 85% or more efficiency and high efficiency is realised in the entire load area. (Figure 1)

Its output current is 600mA, and when compared with voltage regulators conventionally, its high efficiency power supply circuit generates less heat, with reduced mounting space at 1/4 the required space of past products. (Figure 2)

The switching frequency can be selected from either 1.2 or 2.2MHz and since it operates by PWM control. The soft-start time has been set internally to be 2.0ms (Typ.), but a time longer than the internal soft-start can be set optionally depending on the resistance and capacity connected to the EN/SS terminal.

The compact USP-6C package with the power Good function eliminates the need of a voltage detector to monitor output voltage, allowing the reduction of external component t counts. The Power good function and external soft-start function make the sequence control easy. The protective circuits of an overcurrent protection and a thermal shutdown which are built into these products enable safe use.
