Fast DC/DC converter for industrial and data storage equipment

The XC9266 series of 6A synchronous step-down DC/DC converters from Torex feature an internal 5.5V operation driver transistor and are equipped with the company’s HiSAT-COT fast transient response control.

Recent years have seen a lowering of the core voltage in microcontrollers and FPGAs (0.8V to 1.2V), and a high core voltage accuracy (1.0% to 3.0%) is in demand. The market is also demanding large capacitors to improve ripple voltage and load transient characteristics. For this reason, power circuit scale is increasing to achieve both low output ripple voltage and a fast transient response.

Equipped with Torex’s HiSAT-COT fast transient response control, the newly launched XC9266 series of 6A synchronous step-down DC/DC converters with an internal 5.5V-operation driver transistor are well suited power ICs for industrial equipment, storage and other equipment that requires high efficiency and a fast transient response.

Compared to commonly used COT control, Torex’s HiSAT-COT control enables suppression of frequency fluctuations caused by the load and input voltage, and achieves a transient response that Torex claim is the world’s fastest class in low voltage application areas. PWM control or PWM/PFM auto-switching control are available as an operation mode and the mode is selectable by using MODE pin. Therefore, a fast response, low ripple and high efficiency are realised across a full range of loads - from light to heavy.

The output current is 6.0A, the input voltage range is 2.7V to 5.5V, and the output voltage range is 0.8V to 3.6V with FB voltage accuracy ±1.0%. The switching frequency can be selected from 1.2MHz and 3.0MHz to match the application. The softstart function enables start-up in a quick 0.25ms (fixed internally). This can also be set as desired using an external resistance and capacitance. Internal protective circuits include an over current protection circuit, a short circuit protection circuit, and a thermal shutdown circuit. Short circuit protection or Hiccup can be selected. The IC is housed in the low profile QFN0404-24C package (4.0 x 4.0 x h0.75mm).
