For use in rolling stock, as well as industrial applications, the RP40-FR DC/DC converter series has been released by Recom.

They are certified to EN50155 for the harsh environments which can be encountered in railway applications. They are also certified according to UL/cUL 60950-1, making them suitable for applications with higher input voltages in industry, telecommunications, and distributed power supply architectures, says the company.

The converters have a wide 4:1 input voltage range and deliver 40W of regulated output power from single or dual outputs and have an output trim function. On/off remote control with positive or negative logic is included.

The series is available with rated DC inputs of 24 or 48V with 1.6kVDC insulation or 110V with 3kVDC insulation. The high efficiency, up to 92%, makes a high power density possible, says the company. 40W is available in 2.0 x1.0inches (50.8x25.4x10.2mm) without a heat sink or 56.8x25.4x16.8mm with a heat sink. Protection features are short-circuit, over-voltage, over-load, and over-temperature protection. Operating temperature range is -40 to 105°C. The company provides a three-year guarantee, and all converters are available now from its distribution network.
