A digital DC/DC controller, suitable for FPGA, ASIC, and POL power in communications and computing applications, has been released by Powervation. Designed for key rails that demand precision output voltage regulation and tight control during transient conditions, the PV3105 digital controller provides low jitter and low output voltage ripple, and improved transient response.

To meet the power needs of today’s advanced ASICs, the DC/DC controller provides support for the latest senseFET power stages, precision telemetry and reporting, and includes features such as voltage tracking, margining and sequencing. The PV3105 provides temperature compensated fault protection and more flexible protection feature settings. Alerts over PMBus are fully configurable and selectable. Fully scalable, the DC/DC controller can be used in single phase mode or power multi-phase high power loads using Powervation’s DSS current sharing bus.

The PV3105 is designed to flexibly operate with all leading FET power stages, providing designers with maximum flexibility for powering the latest FPGAs, ASICs, processors and POL. The DC/DC controller is RoHS compliant and is available now in a 4x4mm QFN package.

“PV3105 delivers faster transient performance by using Auto-Control, a mode of our xTune auto-tuning architecture, and a programmable load-line feature,” commented David New, Vice President, Product Marketing, Powervation. “Additionally, this device provides up to 1.25MHz switching frequency and implements new digital loop techniques to reduce output voltage setting time.”
