Designed for non-isolated, high-current POL supplies in FPGA applications, the ZSPM1502 single-phase, true-digital power solution has been released by ZMDI. The PWM controller has been optimised to provide the ultra-fast transient load response typically needed for many higher performance FPGAs in telecomms equipment operating with a 1.0V supply.

The company’s State-Law Control (SLC) technology enables the ZSPM15xx family of digital PWM controllers to respond quickly to large step changes in current for higher performance FPGAs. The SLC feature monitors the output voltage with two parallel compensation feedback loops: one circuit for steady-state operations and a different circuit for transient operations. The ZSPM1502 switches quickly and reliably between the different compensation modes to provide outstanding transient performance.

The device is pre-configured to provide customers with a fast time-to-market and easy-to-design digitally controlled power solution in combination with one of ZMDI’s integrated MOSFET power stage DrMOS products: the ZSPM9000, ZSPM9010, ZSPM9015 or ZSPM9060. The ZSPM1502 permits users to easily select the over-current protection limit, output voltage rise time and control loop compensation via two external resistors to achieve the highest performance in their application.

The PWM controller is capable of supporting loads up to 40A at the popular bus voltage of 1V (output voltage of the power stage). The company also provides BOMs and circuit board layouts to improve customer design cycles, reduce external component cost and minimise application footprint size.

“This product is optimised for next-gen FPGA solutions, which require an ultra-compact footprint and fast transient load response to meet performance specifications. This enables our customers to get the best performance out of the FPGA with much smaller capacitors at the output, resulting in a lower total solution cost,” said Hensen Wong, Product Marketing Manager, Power Management Division, ZMDI. “Because the ZSPM1502 is designed for our ZSPM90xx DrMOS power stage products, the chipset can provide customers with a fast time-to-market, best-in-class transient response and lower BOM cost.”
