Power management company Eaton has announced an extension to its range of blowout preventer (BOP) hoses, which meet the requirements of the demanding API 16D 2nd Edition drill well specification. The newly released Eaton EC556 BOP hose is a critical part of oil and gas drilling and exploration equipment where reliability and safety are priority customer needs.

Designed to meet the rigorous demands of the industry, the Eaton EC556 BOP hose has been fire tested for five minutes at 700 ºC (1300 ºF) in accordance with API 16D 10.1.2 and received a Type Approval Certificate from Lloyd’s Register OD 1000/499 fire test.

“Building on a strong legacy of fluid conveyance product innovation, our EC556 portfolio of blowout preventer hoses are designed to perform when the application needs it most,” said Dimitar Atanasov, product manager, Industrial Hoses, EMEA, Eaton. “Our knowledge within this area has led us to develop a hose that offers a solution to meet the needs of the oil and gas drilling industry.”

The Eaton EC556 BOP hose combines high performing spiral reinforcement with flame-resistant rubber cover and is qualified with Eaton’s 1W-ISC fittings (carbon steel and stainless steel) for pressures up to 350 bar (5100psi) and temperatures ranging from -40 ºC to +100 ºC (-40 ºF to +212 ºF). This constant, specified working pressure rating is available for all sizes -12, -16, -20 and -24 with inside diameters from 19 mm to 38 mm (0.75” to 1.5”). The EC556 hose cover is also abrasion resistant for greater durability. What’s more, for applications where routing is challenging, the EC556 hose offers greater flexibility than many steel armored equivalents.
