Experts in power conversion, Ideal Power, announced the availability of a new range of AC/DC power supplies from P-Duke. The new TAF150 series power supplies are ideally suited for digital signage applications, due to their high reliability, and extended operating temperature range of -40 to 85°C.

Digital signage applications are continuously working at full capacity most of the time. This means that they require a reliable power supply with high mean time between failures (MTBF). Reliability and MTBF are temperature-related, so the components used within a power supply for digital signage must be up to the task and of high quality and tested for higher temperature operations.

Additionally, in digital signage applications, the power supply is often placed in an enclosed space without good ventilation or a fan. This will cause temperature build up as the heat is unable to escape and vent to the outside environment, so the operating temperature range of the power supply is particularly important.

The TAF150 series operates within a temperature range of -40 to 85ºC. Full output power can be maintained up to an ambient temperature of 60ºC, at which point power derating starts.

According to Orbis Research, digital signage is a fast-growing market forecast to hit $31bn by 2023, with applications in sectors such as retail, transportation and healthcare. To meet the requirements of signage applications, these new power supplies offer a wider temperature range, and higher temperature operation, than competitive products, while still providing the same output power.

The TAF150 series are AC/DC power supplies with a wide input voltage range of 85 to 264V AC, at frequencies between 47 and 63Hz. They provide an output with adjustable voltage of up to 12V DC, rated at 150W.

Efficiency is high at 91%, and standby power consumption is less than 0.3W. The power supplies provide active power factor correction, and include a built-in EMI filter.
