Sync buck DC/DC controller enables use of DrMOS
Linear Technology Corporation has announced the LTC3887-1, a dual output synchronous step-down DC/DC controller with I²C-based PMBus interface for digital power system management. The LTC3887-1 differs from the previously released LTC3887 by providing a three-state PWM signal, enabling the use of DrMOS, power blocks or similar power stages.
Wireless power receiver IC matches wired charging speeds
Toshiba has launched a wireless power receiver IC that will enable mobile devices to be charged wirelessly, as fast as if they were connected to the charger via a cable. The TC7764WBG supports a maximum power output of 5W and is compliant with the Qi standard’s low power specification V.1.1.2, defined by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC).
Li-ion batteries can be printed on almost any surface
On July 15, a team of researchers at UNIST, led by Prof. Sang-Young Lee have discovered a class of printable solid-state Li-ion batteries (as referred as PRISS Batteries) that can exist on almost any surface. According to the research team, conventional rechargeable batteries come in fixed shapes and sizes, which have intrinsic limitations in fulfilling design and performance requirements for the flexible and wearable electronic devices.
5-20W open power supplies are medically approved
Designed to provide up to 20W for medical equipment applications, Powersolve announces the PMP05, PMP10, PMP15 and PMP20 series of single output power supplies. Each series is comprised of four models featuring Class II isolation, an open frame format and, importantly for medical applications, cooling by free air convection. Every model has been burn-in tested at full load.
Contactor handles currents as high as 4000A
TE Connectivity has released the KILOVAC KHR500 (Bubba II) high-voltage, high-rupture, 600 AMP contactor, which is smaller, lighter, and switches significantly higher power than its predecessor, the EV500 (Bubba I). Capable of handling inrush currents as high as 4000A, the device is hermetically sealed for use in harsh and explosive environments.
On-chip DC/DC converter powers digital isolators
The Si88x2x Dual Digital Isolators from Silicon Labs are in stock at distributor Mouser Electronics. The modules integrate proven digital isolator technology with an on-chip isolated DC-DC converter to provide regulated output voltages of 3.3V or 5.0V at peak output power of up to 5W with external power switch.
Excelsys adds PMBus protocol to Xsolo power supply platform
Excelsys Technologies announces the availability of PMBus communications on its Xsolo series of 1U, single output PSUs. Xsolo units equipped with an optional I2C digital interface can be remotely monitored by system supervisory equipment utilising industry standard PMBus protocols.
Real-time search results
DCDCselector.com has updated its IC-Quicksearch tool. Now, when users pre-select parameters for DC/DC converter, controller, LED driver and PMIC products, a small counter shows how many product results are found in real-time.
Reduced size & weight power supply suits space applications
Pico Electronics was recently asked to design a highly reliable, high voltage miniature DC/DC converter module for a space application. Using the company's expertise, they were able to reduce the size and weight without compromising the converter's reliability in these extreme environmental conditions.
DC electronic load returns up to 95% of test energy
Intepro Systems has introduced the ELR9000 series of electronic DC loads. A unique feature of the ELR9000 series is an integral, grid-synchronised inverter designed to return up to 95% of the load test energy back to the grid. The rack-mounted unit is available, off-the shelf, with output ratings of 3.5, 7 and 10.5kW (scalable to 105kW).
