Nu Horizons Electronics has introduced the SMSC USB331x family of integrated, high speed, USB 2.0 transceiver (PHY). The devices eliminate the need for external USB switches and ESD protection devices, cutting component count, circuit complexity and cost. The transceivers act as a single port of connection for high-speed data transfer, battery charging and audio accessories, enabling greater design flexibility. They are aimed at consumer electronics applications including cell phones, PDAs, portable media players and GPS systems and set top boxes but are also suitable for use in industrial systems.

Variable I/O voltage capability allows the devices to operate from me either 1.8V or 1.8V to 3.3VDC power rails and power consumption is minimized with both low power and standby modes. The devices support 12MHz, 13MHz, 19.2MHz, 24MHz and 26MHz clock frequencies and can tolerate noisy clock and power supply lines. Most versions are available in 24 pin QFN or 25 pin VFBGA packages. Operating temperature ranges are 0 to +70 degrees C or -40 to +85 degrees C.
