Integrated Device Technology, Inc. today announced that the IDT TSI578 RapidIO switch has been selected by RADVISION Ltd., for use in its SCOPIA Elite multipoint video conference system.
RADVISION selected IDT’s RapidIO switch product because of its high performance, low latency, and robust feature set which enables them to deliver uncompromised high-definition multipoint continuous presence.

Today’s high-performance video and imaging systems require higher resolution and more frames per second for the best user experience. Existing semiconductors, such as DSPs and FPGAs support the processing, but demand a specialized digital “pipe” to transfer large amounts of data in real-time. RapidIO is an ideal solution, providing cost and performance benefits that facilitate the broad deployment of premium video systems across various industries.

The IDT TSI578 is a third generation RapidIO switch used as a chip-to-chip, board-to-board, and chassis-to-chassis interconnect supporting up to 80 Gigabits per second of full duplex aggregate bandwidth. Using RapidIO, OEMs in imaging, video, server, defense, wireless and industrial markets are able to design embedded systems with peer-to-peer clusters of embedded processors with reliable packet transmission, simplified system memory maps, and ultra-low end-to-end packet termination latency with three layers of protocol terminated in hardware.

“After extensive embedded technology analysis, we chose IDT’s RapidIO switches because of the ease of designing a multi-DSP system in a peer-to-peer network with low and deterministic latency, ample bandwidth, low power, and excellent software scalability; all of which were critical to our SCOPIA Elite video conference system,” said Orly Nicklass, vice president of research and development at RADVISION. “RapidIO helped simplify our system design due to its friendly protocol attributes. These features, coupled with IDT’s powerful software and system modeling support allowed us to design a distinguished product and gain a competitive advantage.”

“We’re pleased that RADVISION has selected IDT’s RapidIO switch for its video conferencing system,” said Fred Zust, vice president of the Communications Division at IDT. “The merits of RapidIO make it ideal for high-performance video, enabling wide spread deployment of these video systems with low cost and power. We’re delighted to have contributed to RADVISION’s superior product, and look forward to continuing to support them in the future.”
