Through strategic acquisition and a planned business approach, AWS Group, one of the UK’s leading independent Electronic Manufacturing Solutions (EMS) providers, is now is an excellent position to offer Whole Life Support services to the electronics manufacturing sector. The group comprises AWS Cemgraft, AWS Electronics, AWS Slovakia and AWS Jantec, with each company specialising in a different manufacturing function, from initial design and prototyping, through volume manufacture to maintenance and repair.
Many companies that are looking to reduce overheads and maximise the use of their own internal design and manufacturing resources are embracing the concept of Whole Life Support. At the initial stages of a project, AWS is happy to be involved in Design-for-Manufacture and Design-for-Cost discussions, providing fast track low volume prototype manufacturing services from its state-of-the-art AWS Cemgraft facility in Newbury. As production ramps, it may well make sense to transfer production to the company’s volume production sites in Newcastle (AWS Electronics) or Namestoveo (AWS Slovakia). Finally, supporting a mature product with maintenance and repair services is AWS Jantec, based in Bedford.

A wide range of industry sectors are using AWS Group’s Whole Life Services. AWS worked with a satellite communications company to develop a power amplifier and is now in discussions to support that project formally throughout its 20 year life cycle, freeing up highly skilled resource at the company. In the food industry a coffee vending machine business is using AWS Group for full manufacturing and refurbishing services.

In the medical sector, AWS Jantec is now one of only two preferred suppliers of maintenance and repair services to a manufacturer of blood analysis equipment. Finally, AWS Jantec has also recently taken on the maintenance and repair contract for a manufacturer of road and rail infrastructure products, transferring some of the customer’s key staff to its own facilities under a Government TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment)) scheme.

Comments Mike Berridge, Director of Business Improvement at AWS Group: “Our Whole Life Support strategy epitomizes the Group’s dedication to customer service and technical excellence.

More and more, customers are seeking complete solutions looking to outsource. In this way they can reduce overhead, use high-cost engineers in areas where they can be of most value, improve turnaround times and reduce overall costs.”
