The first 1206 size, 100V MLCC capable of exhibiting capacitance of 4.7µF, and withstanding operating temperatures of up to 125°C, has been unveiled by AVX. The new 1206, 100V MLCCs exhibit high capacitance, ripple resistance, high voltage resistance, low ESR, and an extended lifetime which makes them ideal for use in industrial power supply circuits.

The new MLCCs employ AVX’s newly developed X7S dielectric material, which reduces the average diameter of dielectric particles by approximately 20% and enhances the uniformity of its composition. Providing improved design flexibility over comparable products, the X7S dielectric MLCCs feature a 30% smaller mounting surface than conventional 1210 size products.

AVX’s new 100V MLCC exhibits considerable ripple-resistance in frequency bands extending to more than several dozen KHz,in addition to high capacitance, high voltage resistance, a long useful lifespan, low ESR, and a miniature 1206 (3.2mm x 1.6mm x 1.6mm) package. As a result, the new 1206 MLCC limits heat generation and voltage fluctuations in power supply circuits, reducing size and improving reliability of industrial equipment.

“Reducing the size of capacitors while maintaining high voltage resistance and high capacitance is difficult because properties such as dielectric constants and insulation resistance degrade when applying high voltage to dielectric materials,” commented Kazushige Takamori, marketing manager at AVX. “However, by utilizing AVX’s proprietary new X7S dielectric material, we were able to both reduce the size of the capacitor and maintain performance specs ideal for use in small industrial equipment products with long service lives.”
