AVX has expanded its range of surface mount switch mode power supply capacitors to include the new SMM series stacked MLC capacitors, which incorporate the “High K” Super X7R dielectric. Featuring high dielectric constant (K), the SMM series capacitors provide an extended range of capacitance values in a small case size, freeing up valuable board space.

Ideal applications for the new series range from high-power DC-DC converters to general power supplies, and also include telecom networks, snubbers, aerospace instrumentation panels, and hybrid power supplies, among several others.

“The small size and extensive capacitance and voltage range of the new Super X7R SMM stacked MLC capacitors makes them ideal solutions for a broad range of applications,” said Dan Shields, product marketing manager at AVX.

AVX’s new Super X7R SMM stacked MLC capacitors feature a voltage range of 50V to 500V, a capacitance range of 0.56µF to 120 µF, and an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. Available in SMM3, SMM4, and SMM5 styles, the series also offers various lead options that provide effective mechanical decoupling of the ceramic capacitors from the board, minimizing stresses during board flexing, vibration, or temperature cycling.

Attached to the lead frame with high-temperature solder, Super X7R SMM stacked MLC capacitors have no risk of solder reflow during assembly to the board. Additionally, a Hi-Rel screening option, per MIL-PRF-49470 (B-Level reliability), is available.
