Resistors operate to +350°C with 12kV surge immunity

Suited for power supplies, metering and welding equipment, power tools and appliances, a series of silicone-coated axial lead wirewound resistors has been introduced by Vishay. The CW - High Surge series features high voltage surge immunity up to 12kV and high-temperature operation to +350°C.

Claimed to provide superior short-term surge protection compared with standard wirewound devices, the resistors are available with 1-13W power ratings and resistances from 0.1Ω to 167kΩ with tolerances of ±3, ±5, and ±10%. The devices also provide TCR of ±90ppm/°C for resistance below 0.99Ω, ±50ppm/°C for resistances of 1.0-9.9Ω and ±30ppm/°C for resistances over 10Ω.

The CW - High Surge resistors meet IEC 61000-4-5 requirements with overload and high surge voltage protection for 1.2 and 50µs, respectively. Featuring a 2,000 hour load-life stability of less than ±3% at +25°C, the devices' rugged, completely welded construction increases reliability. A high-temperature silicone coating enables operating temperature ranges of -65 to +250°C (characteristic U) and -65 to +350°C (characteristic V).

Offered with both lead-free and tin/lead terminations, the CW - High Surge series resistors are available now for sampling and in production quantities. Lead times are 8-10 weeks for larger orders.
