Suitable for hot plug consumer and industrial products, including external disks, printers and servers, the NIS5132 resettable electronic fuse has been introduced by Diodes Incorporated. By protecting against shutdown and catastrophic failures, the fuse can significantly help to raise power system reliability.

Operating over an input voltage range from 9-18V, the 3.6A rated NIS5132 allows a product to restart. This enables a reduction in unnecessary field returns. The electronic fuse integrates an internal current limit and a low on-resistance NMOS buffer. With typical RDS(ON) of only 30mΩ and not requiring an external sense resistor in the load path, the device minimises voltage drop and power loss.

The fuse features protections including under-voltage lockout, turn-on ramp control, current-limit and thermal shutdown circuits in order to fully safeguard downstream power components from damage or premature aging. The thermal shutdown can be either latching type (NIS5132MN1) or auto-retry type (NIS5132MN2).

Priced at $0.54 (USD) each in 10,000 unit quantities, the NIS5132 resettable electronic fuse from Diodes Incorporated is available now in a 10-pin small, low-profile DFN3030 package.
