Easier and faster wiring in consumer units and distribution boards is the key benefit offered by the new range of compact RCBOs from Eaton’s Electrical Sector. The new devices are 20mm shorter than their standard counterparts, so they make much more room available for wiring, eliminating the need for users to struggle to make multiple connections in a confined space.

The introduction of the 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations has resulted in RCBOs being far more widely used than ever before. However, because these devices are longer and require more space than ordinary miniature circuit breakers, and also need to accommodate a flying neutral lead up to 1100mm long, they have often been difficult to wire in the space available in consumer units and distribution boards. The new compact RCBOs from Eaton solve this problem completely, while allowing the continued use of standard consumer units and distribution boards.

Eaton’s compact RCBOs are compatible with Eaton’s current range of Memera consumer units and Memshield 3 distribution boards and can be used in new installations or as replacements in existing systems. They are also fully interchangeable with Eaton’s full-size RCBOs which they supersede.

The new RCBOs are available in commercial and residential versions. The commercial devices are available with ratings from 6A to 45A with type B and C trip characteristics. All types have a short-circuit breaking capacity of 10kA, making them ideal for use in both commercial and industrial applications, and all are offered with 30mA earth leakage sensitivity. 10mA and 100mA sensitivity on devices with ratings up to 32A are also available.

The versions primarily intended for residential applications are also available with ratings from 6A to 45A with type B and C trip characteristics. They have a short-circuit breaking capacity of 6kA and are available with 30mA trip sensitivity as standard.

Eaton’s compact RCBOs comply fully with all applicable current legislation, and all products in the range are manufactured in accordance with the requirements of BS EN 61009-1.
