Avago Technologies has announced an expansion of its solid state relay (MOSFET) family of opto-isolation products. The company is a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications. With input drive as low as 2mA and fast switching speeds of less than 0.5ms, Avago's new ASSR-301C/302C and ASSR-401C/402C are specifically designed for sensing and multiplexing applications, such as test and measurement and data acquisition systems, where low power consumption and high system throughput are essential.

The new solid state relays provide low off-state capacitance of less than 15pF for good signal isolation and low on-resistance for less insertion loss. Additionally, low off-state leakage of less than 10nA reduces system measurement errors. Avago's expanded ASSR series feature qualified performance across a wide range of temperature range of -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C, high transient immunity greater than 1 kV/s, and an industry high of 3.75 kV in insulation protection in a miniature SO-4 package. Avago's ASSR-301C and ASSR-401C are single channel, 1 Form A relays that come in a SO4 package. The ASSR-302C and ASSR-402C are dual channel, 2 Form A relays that come in a standard DIP8 footprint. Complementary to the ASSR-301C, the low on-resistance ASSR-321R, an SO4 version of the earlier launched ASSR-322R, will be available together with this launch.

Solid state relay (SSR) provides several advantages over mechanical relays in switching applications. Avago's SSRs offer lower power consumption and are designed to deliver faster speeds and superior insulation protection in equipment. With no moving parts and smaller form factor, the new SSRs also address size-limit and reliability issues that are driving the trend to replace electromechanical relay with solid state relays.

The ASSR-30xC and 40xC are pending approvals in the following widely accepted international safety standards: UL1577, CSA and IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-2.
