The new PSI and PSB series power shunts from KOA are particularly suited for the precise measurement of high currents. The rated power of the metal plate design resistors ranges from 3 to 6 watts at 105 °C termination temperature, and some models offer reliability benefits in high temperature and power load cycling environments by a specially designed shape of the landing pads. Typical applications comprise ECUs, inverters, and industrial automation equipment.
The PSI series shunts are produced in size 10 x 5.2 mm (3921 inch size) and are rated 3 W at 105 °C termination temperature. The ohmic values available are 1, 2, 3, and 4 mOhms with 1 % tolerance.
While the 1 mOhm’s T.C.R. is specified +/- 75 ppm/K, the 2, 3, and 4 mOhm each have a T.C.R. of +/- 50 ppm/K. The useable temperature range extends from –65 °C to +155 °C. Due to special
cut- less trimming the products exhibit very low parasitic self inductance.

Based on the rectangular shaped series PSI, the PSB was developed. Most peculiar feature of the PSB series resistors are their butterfly-shaped landing pads. The shape yields an even distribution
of the mechanical tension to the solder fillet. This tension arises especially under power load and temperature cycling conditions. The large surface area of the solder pads ensures a good heat
transport to the PCB substrate. With a highly heat conductive alumina substrate PCB, up to 6 Watts can be dissipated. The PSB series shunts are available in size 10 x 8,4 mm and ohmic values
0.75 und 1 mOhm (1 %, 75 ppm/K).
