The SCL IS series of rotary isolators have been introduced by Switchtec. Their main function is to isolate the incoming electrical supply to a machine or a piece of equipment: they are used as the main on/off switch or as an isolating switch for general isolating duties, or as emergency padlockable on/off switches in the contractor and control industries.

Available in 20A, 32A, 40A, 63A, 80A and 100A AC three or four pole, and 25A DC double pole units, the SCL isolators are suitable for outdoor use thanks to IP65 protection. This IP65 protection enhances reliability and availability: the isolators offer no ingress of dust, are completely protected against contact with dust, have no harmful effects, and offer protection from a water jet projected by a 6.3mm nozzle directed at the enclosure from any direction.

Enabling maintenance staff to easily and rapidly identify the isolators, the AC switches are fitted with a red and yellow padlockable handle while the DC switches are fitted with a grey and black padlockable handle. Ensuring that the enclosures cannot be opened in the ‘on’ position, all isolator handles are door Interlocked and padlockable in the ‘off’ position. This enhances safety.

There are four enclosure sizes available, dependant upon rating and type. The 20A and 32A AC units are supplied in 125 mm x 100 mm x 122mm enclosures; the 40A and 63A AC units are supplied in 175 mm x 115 mm x 136mm enclosures; the 80A and 100A AC units are supplied in 240 mm x 160 mm x 115mm enclosures; and the DC version is supplied in a 160 mm x 85 mm x 114mm enclosure.

Switchtec's SCL IS series switches have been designed with the Installer in mind. The logical positioning of the screw terminals inside the enclosures provides simple, quick and easy connection of cables. Enabling quick and easy installation, all SCL IS AC and DC switch enclosures come with plenty of knockouts, are internally spacious, and are supplied with additional earth and neutral terminals to give continuity of earth through the switch. This is essential for maximum safety, even in an all-plastic enclosed switch.

The IS enclosed switches are supplied with plastic screws to hold the lid onto the base, ensuring that the IP65 rating is maintained. Also with the user in mind, the screws are self-retained in the lid of the enclosure. This prevents the screws from falling out when the lid is inverted, as some competitors’ enclosed switches do. Designed for areas exposed to all weather conditions, the plastic screws prevent the possibility of corrosion over time.

Switchtec's SCL IS rotary isolator seriesis suitable for use in wide range of applications including panel building, air conditioning/refrigeration, generator manufacturing, heating and ventilation, equipment manufacturing, photovoltaic installation and in AC and DC applications.

All switches conform to EN 60947-1, EN 60947-3, EN 60947-5-1 and EN 60204-1 and are CE marked. Switchtec’s technical sales staff are on hand to provide advice and assistance in specifying and purchasing SCL IS enclosed isolators.
