The WSBS8518...M3 and WSBS8518...M4 36W Power Metal Strip battery shunt resistors featuring M3 and M4 tapped holes, respectively have been freleased by Vishay Intertechnology. With extremely low resistance values down to 50µΩ in the 8518 case size, the Vishay Dale devices increase accuracy and lower costs compared with Hall Effect current sensing solutions.

Their tapped holes aid in PCB mounting, provide extra support against vibration, and offer a location to attach voltage sense pins.

The devices released today feature a proprietary processing technique that produces extremely low resistance values of 50µΩ, 100µΩ, 125µΩ, and 250µΩ.

These low values allow for more accurate data to determine battery charge and discharge, thus helping designers meet specific customer battery management requirements for applications in gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric cars and trucks, as well as electric forklifts, UPS systems, and other heavy industrial applications.

The WSBS8518...M3 and WSBS8518...M4 feature a solid metal manganese-copper alloy resistive element with low TCR (± 20 ppm/°C) and a welded terminal to element connection that allows for up to 848A of continuous current (value dependent).

The resistors offer low inductance values of < 5nH, low thermal EMF down to < 3µV/°C, and an operating temperature range of -65°C to +170°C. The devices are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green.
