Sprint Electric is to present its latest range of DC servo controllers at SPS/IPC/Drives 2015 in Nuremberg, Germany. The drives of the extended XLV range are miniature, fast response DC motor speed controllers, offered in a compact, easy to use DIN rail mounting package. They are designed for use with permanent magnet brushed DC servo motors rated from 4 to 12A.

Recent applications of the XLV range include, for example, door opening mechanisms and motorised swimming pool cover systems. The controllers are suitable for use on DC supplies up to 48 V and can be used in either current (torque) or speed control modes. For highly dynamic applications, a shaft-mounted DC tacho-generator is recommended for speed feedback. In less demanding applications, armature voltage feedback (Avf) can be used. The reference signal for both current and speed control can be either bipolar (±10 V) or unipolar (0 to 10V). Motor speed can be controlled in both forward and reverse directions. An adjustable current limit and fast-acting current control loop protect the controller and motor from sustained overloads.

Latest additions to the miniature 200 XLV model are the 400 XLV model for motors rated up to 4A, the 800 XLV for 8A, and the 1200 XLV for 12A. Despite measuring just 60x120x105mm deep for the 400 and 800 models, and 69mm wide for the 1200 model, the XLV is a genuine four quadrant drive that can motor and brake in both directions of rotation to offer outstanding control of motor speed and torque.

Besides the XLV, Sprint Electric offers a wide range of DC motor control, with over 150 models covering both 1 phase and 3 phase, regenerative and non-regenerative DC motor applications, together with field controllers, digital slip ring motor controllers and thyristor stack controllers. Sprint Electric’s full range of products include analogue DC drives from 2 up to 330A, digital DC drives from 12 up to 2250A and digital slip ring motor controllers from 12 to 1680A. Whether in retrofits or original equipment, DC drives from Sprint Electric are being used in many different applications including metal processing, the pulp and paper industry, rubber and plastic processing, lifting equipment, food processing, leisure industries and many more.
