Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) and Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas will present a live Analog eLab™ Webcast for designers entitled “Improved Procedures for Selecting an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC)” on Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. CST (18:00 hrs CET). The Webcast will highlight the pitfalls encountered when evaluating an ADC for a design, and the importance of selecting the proper tools. TI analog expert Bill Klein, P.E., and panelists Rick Downs of TI and Val Rhodes of Avnet will discuss and demonstrate an efficient, cost-effective new evaluation tool that can save time and resources. Engineers are invited to register for the one-hour session at www.ti.com/analogelab.
When selecting an ADC, designers must consider the various descriptive parameters, the varied signal sources and the ways the output data may be used in their new design. Duplicating test conditions and procedures used by the device manufacturers to characterize their converters is possible. However, this may require a significant investment in test equipment and engineering effort. Several manufacturers offer evaluation modules (EVM) to assist with the selection, although they are usually unique to a specific part. That may cause difficulty for the designer when comparing the results between devices. To achieve a good understanding of a converter’s capability, time-domain, histogram and FFT, data must be collected using the proper test equipment and software for analysis.
During the lab segment, panelists will demonstrate the usefulness of a new tool that simplifies the task of collecting and analyzing ADC data.
This software program can be used with select EVMs and can dramatically save time and costs associated with new designs.
