As one of the busiest and most residentially-encroached general aviation airports in the United States, Santa Monica Airport (SMO) has always sought to ensure compliance with its local noise ordinance in outreach to its neighbors.
In a continuation of that spirit, Santa Monica Airport will soon be the 51st airport to make online aircraft overflight investigation and complaint management a part of their airport-community outreach program with WebTrak.

Santa Monica Airport selected WebTrak over the incumbent system because of WebTrak’s ease of use, accuracy and low cost.

“When researching competing systems, the City of Santa Monica found WebTrak extremely easy to use and understand; a real advantage for our staff and our community and - when we learned that the system could be used not only to investigate aircraft overflight, but also used to report and manage complaints independently from our legacy flight tracking system - we immediately realized WebTrak would make complaint management better for everyone.” says SMO Operations Manger, Stelios Makrides.

With WebTrak, a member of the community can accurately locate their home on the map, replay historical flight tracks, determine who caused the disturbance and how close they were to the home location; and finally allow complaints to be entered directly into the application. WebTrak can be setup to automatically respond to the community member with an email, explaining their complaint has been received and is now a matter of public record.

Robert Brodecky, the Vice President for Brüel & Kjær EMS, USA said: “With its long history of helping airports engage with communities, Brüel & Kjær is excited to now be a part of Santa Monica Airport’s pilot and community outreach programs. We have a great solution for SMO and its neighbours to easily understand and respond to aircraft overflights or loud noise events. We are proud to help with this program and truly believe there is no better way to respond to your community than with WebTrak.”

SMO WebTrak is scheduled to go live to the community later this year.
