element14, Premier Farnell’s innovative online technology resource and community for electronic design engineers, is pleased to announce the dispatch of the 200th Development Kit since the launch of the community’s RoadTest Programme. element14 launched the online RoadTest Group in September 2009, providing users the opportunity to trial and review the newest technologies from a variety of industry leading manufacturers for free. Since then, it has been one of the most visited groups on element14 generating over 3000 visits per week.
The 200th RoadTest recipient, Dr. Istvan Cserny, a scientist based at a major research institute in Hungary, said: “I use mainly Microchip’s PIC18 and PIC24 microcontrollers and was very interested in RoadTesting the Microchip PIC32 Ethernet Starter Kit to test communication between a PC and the PIC32, as well as test the natural performance progression. I hope my review will help other engineers to quickly evaluate the product and overcome any initial difficulties.”

“Roadtest provides an ideal platform for a wide variety of users to test our latest technology,” says Mike McGlade, Sales Channel Manager, Microchip, provider of the 200th kit. “The feedback gained from RoadTest reviews and discussions is a valued channel for Microchip to monitor user requirements and plan features for our next generation of devices.”

The journey of the Roadtest Group has been an unprecedented success on element14 with almost 400 electronics engineers, students and hobbyists joining the group and trialling the products for free. Importantly the group also offers members a platform to discuss their own experiences with the products on test.

element14 has successfully leveraged the power of its eCommunity to highlight the kits from leading suppliers, most of whom have their own interactive groups within the Web 2.0 site. element14 is a natural platform for this offering as the community creates a unique online environment, providing the global electronic design engineers with a vast array of product data, design tools, technology information and the capabilities for public or private collaboration with peers and experts.

The current RoadTest is for the Amicus 18, a PIC controller in an Arduino-compatible form factor. To find out more about the group and join to test the latest technology follow these simple instructions on the element14 RoadTest homepage: http://www.element-14.com/community/groups/roadtest
