Agreement builds on a successful relationship with DS Performance, including the design and supply of transmissions for last season’s car which won both the drivers and teams championships.

Formula E, the all-electric street racing championship, provides an exciting and competitive platform for global car manufacturers and mobility providers to test and develop road-relevant technologies.

The series aims to act as a catalyst to help refine the design of electric vehicles and improve the driving experience for everyday road car users all over the world.

Season 6 of Formula E commences with the double-header races in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia on 22nd and 23rd November 2019, with further races in major cities across North and South America, Asia, North Africa and Europe, concluding in London on 25th and 26th July 2020.

The engineering challenges of Formula E are as extreme as anything in liquid-fuelled motorsport formulae, requiring a laser-like focus on driveline performance and efficiency. Ricardo has been supporting DS Performance in Formula E for a number of years, including the supply of the transmission deployed in the double championship winning DS E-Tense FE19 car used in the 2018-2019 season.

With typical 0-100km/h acceleration of 2.8 seconds and motor speeds of up to 30,000 rev/min, gearbox weight and durability optimisation are crucially important. In order to meet such requirements, Ricardo has used its design and analysis methods, testing facilities, and advanced manufacturing technology to deliver to DS Performance an extreme performance and high efficiency transmission for the 2019-2020 season.

“Ricardo is proud to extend our relationship with DS Performance to include Season 6 of Formula E, the world’s premier electric racing series,” commented Ricardo Performance Products, MD Martin Starkey.

“Efficiency is the watchword in this formula, which places great emphasis on excellence in driveline performance, and we are pleased to have played our part in this by providing the transmission for the 2018-2019 DS Performance double championship winning car. We wish our partners at DS Performance every success in the new season.”
