Avago Technologies Ships 600 Millionth Optical Mouse Sensor

Avago Technologies today announced it has shipped its 600 millionth optical mouse sensor since the release of its first navigation sensor in 1999. Avago pioneered optical sensing for mouse technology and continues to be a trend setter in providing entry-level to next-generation optical and laser mouse sensors to all major LED and laser optical-mouse manufacturers worldwide. The company is a leading supplier of innovative semiconductor solutions for advanced communications, industrial and commercial applications.
Reaching 600 million mouse sensors shipped is a significant milestone for us because it shows the enormous penetration that Avago's mouse sensors have made in this market, said Ngoh Kee Hane, vice president and general manager of the Navigation Products Division at Avago Technologies. To put this milestone in perspective, we have provided manufacturers with enough optical mouse sensors to provide a PC mouse to every citizen living in the United States, Japan, Malaysia, Germany and France. Today, optical mice using Avago Technologies' navigation sensors range from inexpensive entry-level to high-precision models. Moreover, Avago has played a key role in helping mouse manufacturers to convert from mice that use a ball for navigation to optical and laser-based mice that can track on more surfaces with greater accuracy. Avago's optical sensors can be found inside miniature mice, which are ideal for children and mobile travelers with notebook computers, in high-performance gaming applications, and in corded and cordless optical mice that use power-saving technology to deliver longer battery life.





Avago Technologies has achieved many milestones since the release of its first optical mouse sensor in 1999:



· In 2001, Avago introduced the first low-power optical mouse sensor for cordless optical mice and co-developed the first USB and PS/2 optical mouse reference design kit.

· In 2002, Avago introduced the world's smallest optical mouse sensor and co-developed the first high-performance USB and PS/2 optical mouse reference design kit.

· In 2004, Avago co-developed the first high-performance 27 MHz USB wireless optical mouse reference design kit and the first 2.4 GHz USB wireless mouse/keyboard reference design kit.

· In 2004, Avago developed its patented LaserStream illumination and tracking technology.

· In 2005, Avago introduced the world's highest-resolution laser optical mouse sensors for high-end office use, wireless and PC gaming applications; and the world's lowest-power LED optical mouse sensor offering 18 months of operation from alkaline AA battery cells · In February, Avago introduced a new generation of LaserStream and LED-based optical mouse sensors for both corded and cordless applications.
