A triple-channel, video analogue front end IC from Intersil provides what is said to be the industry¹s highest speeds along with continuously controlled offset voltages, so designers do not have to calibrate offset error out of their system on an AFE-by-AFE basis. The device¹s digital phase locked loop includes headswitching support, enabling high-performance images even under the worst-case scenario of digitising inputs from a high-definition digital VCR playing back a standard VHS tape.
Intersil¹s ISL98001 is a triple-channel, 8-bit video analogue front end that incorporates all of the functions required to digitize YPbPr (component) video signals and RGB (red, green, blue) graphics signals from DVD players, VCRs, set-top boxes and personal computers. It is available in
five different speeds ranging from 140Mpixels/s to 275Mpixels/s, providing a solution for every video resolution. The device delivers optimal performance for hi-end televisions, monitors, home theatres, business projectors, and KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) products.

The ISL98001¹s fast conversion rates support HDTV resolution up to 1080p and
computer monitor resolutions up to QXGA. The programmable input bandwidth
incorporated in the AFE ensures sharp, clean images at all resolutions. In
addition, the ISL98001 delivers very low jitter, high bandwidth and
excellent linearity. Its automatic black level compensation ensures
outstanding black level performance for even the lowest-cost home theatre
systems, delivering excellent colour reproduction even with temperature
variations.

One of the most innovative features of the ISL98001 is its digital phase
locked loop technology, which allows Intersil to provide a maximum jitter of
450ps (250ps typical) peak-to-peak, the best in the industry and a necessity
for UXGA and higher PC resolutions. A Opeaking¹ function compensates for
input degradation in instances of low-channel bandwidth, and integrated
HSYNC and SOG signal processing eliminates the need for external sync
slicers, sync separators, Schmitt triggers and noise filters.
The ISL98001 is available now in 128-lead MQFP packages.
