IDT has announced a new member of its family of central packet switches. The new device provides IDT customers with an optimized mix of port count, performance and power consumption for up to six 4x ports of 10G connectivity. The device offers IDT customers sustained throughput for the full range of minimum and maximum packet sizes while providing power consumption low enough to eliminate the need for an additional heat sink device in many applications. Moreover, the Serial RapidIO (S-RIO)-based switch addresses the interconnect needs of embedded applications whose functionality is central to routing packets for distribution amongst DSPs, FPGAs or processors, other switches, or any other S-RIO-based devices.
As with other members of the CPS family, the 80KSW0006 incorporates in-house fourth-generation IDT SerDes and S-RIO core switch technology to provide customers with best possible signal integrity, superior flexibility and scalability. The new device supports S-RIO packet switching (including unicast, multicast and optional broadcast) from any of its six input ports to any of its six output ports and is pin-to-pin compatible with the existing IDT PPS family of devices, allowing customers the flexibility to upgrade their next-generation systems to the more powerful pre-processing solution with no impact on hardware or board design.

Leveraging the Serial RapidIO, JTAG and I2C interconnect standards, the IDT CPS family specifically addresses such markets as wireless and wireline, imaging, medical, military, IPTV, and other high-end communications markets and embedded applications. Following the IDT initiative to provide unparalleled performance in power-efficient configurations, the CPS family offers IDT customers a best-in-class solution through fastest possible time-to-market. Supporting software solutions provided for the CPS and PPS switch families include an IDT-developed power calculator that allows customers to estimate power usage in various usage profiles. Customers can use this calculator to adjust device options to achieve maximum power savings.

Based upon proven IDT pre-processing technology, the CPS family includes an advanced feature set developed in conjunction with IDT customers to meet their specific interconnect needs. This feature set is built into the IDT solution to benefit customers when they are in the design phase, but also enables critical diagnostics during early stages of testing and continues to be useful in the end application. The devices include a “loopback mode,” which enables customers the added flexibility to work with the physical layer of the IDT device and quickly identify the source of any performance bottlenecks. Additionally enhanced functions provide “kill” and “trace/mirror” capabilities that enable an added layer of security that is often critical in embedded applications.

The CPS solutions are supported by ATCA- and MicroTCA-compatible, dedicated development platforms together with a comprehensive range of software development tools, such as GUI, API, drivers and third-party tools. Each kit supports all other IDT pre-processing solutions and S-RIO-enabled solutions, such as the 10G Serial Buffer and CPRI FICs, and enables the designer to tune system and component configurations to meet system requirements. Moreover, to ensure that each system design is optimized for production and meets its time-to-market objectives, IDT provides customers with extensive collaborative support, including system modeling and signal integrity analyses, and schematic and layout review services.

The new CPS device is available in a RoHS 676-ball BGA 27 mm x 27 mm. and is currently sampling.
