Claiming to provide the lowest power in the smallest package size in their class, the 14b AD9249 and AD9681 are the latest ADCs from Analog Devices. The 16-channel, 65-MSPS AD9249 and the 8-channel, 125-MSPS AD9681 are designed for multi-channel data acquisition at low power where a small package size is crucial to the overall design.

The AD9249 integrates 16 ADC channels into a single package and dissipates 58mW of power per channel at 65 MSPS. This reduces thermal concerns in high-channel-count designs. The 8-channel AD9681 dissipates 110mW per channel at 125 MSPS. Both converters are available in a 10mm x 10mm package, feature on-chip sample-and-hold circuitry, and can also achieve a spurious free dynamic range greater than 90dBc and signal-to-noise ratio of 74dBFS or better.

The ADCs are easy to use with data clock outputs (DCO±1, DCO±2) that operate at frequencies of up to 500MHZ and 455MHz respectively, whilst also supporting double-data-rate operation. The devices require a single 1.8V power supply and an LVPECL-/ CMOS-/LVDS-compatible sample rate clock for full performance operation. No external reference or driver components are required for many applications.

The ADCs are designed for use in ndustrial ultra-sound and instrumentation, healthcare imaging, military countermeasure and communications receiver applications.
