2x G-Ethernet and Linux supported high-end microprocessor for consumer media and gateway applications

2x G-Ethernet and Linux supported high-end microprocessor for consumer media and gateway applications
Renesas Technology Europe has announced the availability of the SH7763 highly integrated microprocessor for sophisticated consumer applications such as high-end audio/video equipment, media servers and set-top-boxes. It is also suits telecom-based designs such as residential gateways, routers and IP-feature phones. In addition, the microprocessor is ideal for migrating designs from industrial PCs (IPC) to deeply embedded hardware. This would achieve significantly lower power consumption, longer product life time and smaller form factors than any IPC can offer.

Self-Test Software Simplifies End-Product Safety Compliance for STM's STM32 Flash microcontroller family

Self-Test Software Simplifies End-Product Safety Compliance for STM's STM32 Flash microcontroller family
STMicroelectronics has announced a new software library for the recently-announced STM32 Flash microcontroller family – which is based on the breakthrough ARM Cortex-M3 core – designed specifically to simplify the testing and securing end-product approval and compliance with the demands of the IEC 60335-1 standard*, when the MCU is used in household appliances. Since October 2007, IEC 60335-1 requires the software of MCU-based appliances to be evaluated according to its impact on overall consumer and application safety. When some of the fault detection relies on the microcontroller, the embedded code must contain self-test routines, and must be evaluated under the so-called Class B requirements for its ability to detect safety critical failures.

Blackfin processors shrink time to market for PMPs

Blackfin processors shrink time to market for PMPs
Analog Devices have announced that they are working with RealNetworks, Inc. to provide the latest generation of Personal Media Players featuring full D1 broadcast resolution playback of RealVideo and RealAudio media files, the same formats used in RealPlayer. The combined efficiency of the RealVideo format and the performance of the Blackfin processor deliver a high-quality level of video playback traditionally not found in personal media players. Chinese market leader, Aigo introduced two models this Autumn, the Aigo E898 and F965R, which feature support of RealVideo, RealAudio and the RMVB formats running on a Blackfin processor, and credits the Blackfin with shortening time to market and reducing the risk in product design, since its inherent programmability allows for rapid development cycles.
