Microchip has announced eight new members of the PIC18F high-performance 8-bit microcontroller family that take advantage of Microchip’s latest process technology developments, offering lower power consumption, low cost and high-performance operation. The new devices’ low-power nanoWatt Technology features include power-managed modes, an operating voltage range of 1.8V to 3.6V and efficient on-chip peripherals.
The devices also feature a precision internal oscillator that will support full speed (16 MIPS) operation from a 3V supply. In addition, the new family offers full code, pin-out and tool compatibility with Microchip’s wide portfolio of 8-bit microcontrollers.

All eight members of the PIC18F4XK20/2XK20 microcontroller family are supported by Microchip’s high-performance development systems, including the free MPLAB Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with Visual Device Initializer, the MPLAB C18 C Compiler, the MPLAB ICD 2 In-Circuit Debugger, and the low-cost PICkit 2 Debug Express.

The new family is offered in the following package options: 28-pin PDIP, SOIC, SSOP and QFN, 40-pin PDIP, and 44-pin TQFP and QFN.

The 32Kbyte (PIC18F45K20 and PIC18F25K20) and 16Kbyte devices (PIC18F44K20 and PIC18F24K20) are available now for general sampling and volume production is expected in the fourth calendar quarter of 2007. The 64Kbyte devices (PIC18F46K20 and PIC18F26K20) are sampling now, while the smaller 8Kbyte devices (PIC18F43K20 and PIC18F23K20) are expected to sample later in the year.
