Swissbit’s already popular family of INDUSTRIAL SecureDigital (SD) cards has just added a new member. The 8GB S-220 series offers the highest density and performance of all Swissbit SDHC storage cards. As with all Swissbit Secure Digital cards, the S-220 series is specifically designed, manufactured, and tested to withstand extreme environmental conditions.
/> The use of Single Level Cell (SLC) Flash components combined with a 32-bit RISC controller provides many enhanced product features, such as built-in Error Correction Code (ECC), bad block management, wear-leveling, power loss protection, and power saving modes. Critical component control, overall electrical and mechanical robustness, as well as extensive product qualification procedures guarantee the highest product quality and reliability. Swissbit SD cards can perform in an array of applications such as embedded single board computers, automation, medical systems, high reliability market segments, and telecommunications.

Intelligent wear-leveling ensures that all dynamic and static data is balanced evenly across the entire Flash memory card. This approach to wear-leveling will guarantee that the maximum write endurance is achieved for every Swissbit Secure Digital Flash card. The Swissbit S-220 SD card supports both Secure Digital (SD) and the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) bus communication modes. Either mode can be selected by the application while being transparent to the host system. Data integrity is assured by use of an on-board voltage detection and patented power-loss management system to prevent data corruption during an unexpected loss of power.

S-220 series SD cards utilize a custom-designed, highly-integrated memory controller and is fully compliant with the Secure Digital Card specifications 2.0. Swissbit SD cards come standard with an extended operating temperature range of -25°C to +85°C TAmbient. An industrial temperature version that can operate at -40°C to +85°C TAmbient is also available allowing for further design flexibility in harsh environments.

Swissbit’s SD cards are designed specifically to match the demanding needs of the industrial market. All Swissbit series of SD cards are robust in nature because of the use of small Land Grid Array (LGA) components and the selection of the materials used to create the housing and printed circuit board. A 100% ultrasonic welded border and extra thick plastic is the chosen material to construct the stable ABS/PC housing that surrounds the SD card’s internal components. Special connector supports also provide for the best stability against bending and torque. Another unique characteristic of Swissbit’s Secure Digital cards is enhanced Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) protection. By using high dielectric strength housing materials combined with the greater distance between the card’s border and its components allow for enhanced ESD protection up to 15kV, which is the highest in the industry. Swissbit made the decision to use special gold plated connectors versus commonly used flash gold connectors because doing so allows for a minimum of 10,000 insertions and a resistance to corrosive gases.

In addition, the Swissbit Engineering Team can customize the S-220 series as it can with all Flash products to meet non-standard customer requirements that cannot use an “off-the-shelf” solution. Customization options can include project specific labeling, data preload, ID string changes, modified capacities, and/or firmware changes.

All Swissbit Flash and DRAM memory products are RoHS and REACH compliant.
