Unikie is showcasing its automated parking solution with automotive giants BMW, Ford, Jaguar-Land Rover and Mercedes Benz in a joint venture of the German Automobile Industry Association.

Automated Valet Parking turns future mobility into an experience as the car will be parked, washed and charged automatically, without a driver. The smart automated parking solution utilises data and machine learning to park the vehicle completely independently without any assistance from the driver. The system consists of a smart infrastructure created for the parking garage by Unikie, where sensors and cloud computing enable communication between the car and its surroundings. The system works together with the technology and interfaces leading car manufacturers have developed for their vehicles

"The collaboration is a testament not only to the four carmakers' confidence in Unikie's pioneering role as an application developer for self-driving vehicles, but also to the fact that the Finnish technology company has finally established itself as an international automotive partner", says Seppo Kuula, CEO of Unikie.

In addition to Unikie and leading carmakers, the automated parking service has been developed by technology developer and infrastructure provider CARIAD, automotive software developers BOSCH Mobility Solutions, Continental and Kopernikus Autonomous Driving Solutions, and automotive supplier Valeo.

“Our solution differs from others in that we use lidar for real-time observation of the environment, while in others the solution is based on cameras. In parking garages, the absolute advantage of a lidar is that the solution also works in the dark, unlike cameras", Kuula explains.
