Accelerated subsea clean energy growth with investment
Subsea clean energy specialists EC-OG have received £1.6m from an investment consortium led by Par Equity. EC-OG will use the funds to support its growth plans, which focus on the exploitation of its innovative Halo battery storage system designed for subsea applications. The investment will create up to 40 jobs in Aberdeen over the next 12 months.
Mining site power plant to utilise solar energy
The technology group Wärtsilä will supply the engineering, equipment, and technical advisory for a 44 MW power plant to be installed at the Mansourah & Massarah Gold Project mine in Saudi Arabia. It will be the first newbuild power project in the country to utilise a hybrid concept, with engine technology and solar energy and will allow the mining site power plant to efficiently utilise solar energy.
Keeping the turbines turning
As the need for renewable energy grows, so too does the need for reliable electronics for turbines. Design engineers are charged with the task of keeping turbines turning and ensuring that power flows reliably, says Steve Hughes, managing director of REO UK.
Minecraft teaches renewable energy to housebound students
Together with Minecraft and Blockworks, EIT InnoEnergy has made Lumen, a game-based learning module that teaches youth about sustainable and renewable energy, available via Minecraft: Education Edition to celebrate Earth Day 2020.
Pandemic disrupts the global solar PV supply chain
The disruption caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on Chinese solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing companies has prompted a major jolt on the global solar PV supply chain. The resulting shortage of PV components is disrupting the industry at a global level, according to GlobalData.
Contract for offshore wind farm cable protection systems
Trelleborg’s applied technologies operation has been awarded a contract by renewable energy provider, Ørsted, to provide four integrated cable protection systems for Hornsea Two, a large offshore wind farm.
Online platform for purchasing remote solar panels
Lithuania has achieved a milestone in solar energy generation as it has launched a remote solar consumer model. The project gives customers an opportunity to buy or rent a remote solar panel and do all that using one online platform.
Embedded computer technology for wind turbines aids bat protection
Climate change requires a rapid rethinking of energy policy worldwide. Renewable energy plays an important role in this context. In Germany, power generation with wind turbines is a key component of the turnaround in energy policy.
Can vertical farming revolutionise global agriculture?
Vertical farming is the practice of growing plants indoors under fully controlled environmental conditions in many stacked layers, using artificial lighting instead of relying on the sun. By tuning the growing environment to the exact needs of the plant and using soil-free growing techniques, this method of farming can achieve yields hundreds of times higher than conventional agriculture, 365 days a year and without requiring pesticides.
Battery energy storage solutions for next-gen electric ferries
Nidec ASI, the Nidec Industrial Solutions platform belonging to the Nidec Group, has supplied battery energy storage systems (BESS) for the latest vessel developed by Brødrene Aa, a Norwegian company that builds electric ferries and ships.
