The latest addition to Link Microtek’s portfolio of products from manufacturer Peregrine Semiconductor is a 75-ohm, 6-bit RF digital step attenuator (DSA) that delivers glitch-less transitions between attenuation states. The PE4314 device is ideal for wired broadband applications in cable/satellite customer premises equipment and infrastructure equipment.

Covering a frequency range from 1MHz to 2.5GHz, the DSA achieves an attenuation transient of just 0.5dB, thereby eliminating the need for any software or firmware workarounds to mitigate the effect of a glitch and prevent damage to expensive subassemblies.

The PE4314 offers an attenuation range of 0 to 31.5dB in 0.5dB steps. An integrated digital control interface provides for both serial and parallel programming of the attenuation, including the capability to program an initial attenuation state at power up.

The device supports 1.8V control voltage and features an extended operating temperature range from -40 to 105degC.

Housed in a 20-lead 4 x 4 x 0.85mm QFN package, the PE4314 is fabricated using Peregrine’s UltraCMOS process, which is a patented variation of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology on a sapphire substrate.

Samples and evaluation kits are available to facilitate customer evaluation of the DSA.
