Products and research from Taiwan unveiled at CES 2017

Influential insights and a first look at new products and research from ASUSTeK, KYMCO, Delta, Thermaltake and ITRI were among the highlights of a press conference at CES 2017 in Las Vegas on January 5th. The Taiwan Excellence event shone a spotlight on Taiwanese innovation. It was organised by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the foremost organisation promoting mutual trade and investment between Taiwan and the world.

Special guests included Mr. Ming-Shy Chen, deputy director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Los Angeles, and Mr. Aymerik Renard, Director of Western Digital Capital.

ASUSTeK demonstrated its engineering and research skills as ASUSTeK Chief Marketing Officer, Rex Lee, unveiled details of the company’s Zennovation concept. He highlighted the company’s design and development strength in the mobile market with products such as the new Asus ZenFone 3 Zoom with its optical zoom and superior light sensitivity.

KYMCO showed how it is possible to innovate in any industry, by bringing the world of two-wheeled transport up to date with the Internet of Things (IoT). KYMCO Chairman, Allen Ko, revealed how the company’s smart, personalised, connected dashboard system for scooters creates a new Internet of Vehicles.

The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) amazed guests with a glimpse of the technologies that will be making headlines at CES in future years, such as ITRI’s intelligent vision system for companion robots, and ultra-long-range autonomous drone technology.

ITRI’s Dr. Ming-Jer Kao showed how a companion robot could learn, with minimal human intervention, to play chess on a real board, and safely pour cups of hot coffee in a changing and unpredictable real-world environment.

Vivitek, a brand of Delta Electronics, announced its move to the next generation of wireless collaboration. Dr. Botao Lin described easy-to-use products that take large-scale corporate presentations and conferences to a new level of interaction, with 4K streaming and cross-platform, multi-device compatibility.

Thermaltake’s Mike Fierheller showed off his company’s innovative use of tempered glass panels in new wall-mountable liquid-cooled open frame PC cases, as well as new eSports peripherals.

Among other highlights, TAITRA’s Executive Vice President, Walter M. S. Yeh, gave an overview of Taiwan’s strategic role in the global Information & Communications Technology (ICT) industry; Western Digital Capital’s director, Aymerik Renard, shared his insights to sourcing innovation; TAITRA’s Show Manager, Ms. Ruby Kuo presented her views on Building Global Technology Ecosystems, and Ming-Shy Chen of TECO Los Angeles illuminated the background to Taiwan’s remarkable development as an information technology powerhouse.

A large and enthusiastic audience of media and industry representatives participated in the event, Q&A sessions and networking opportunities. At least 40 media representatives from 11 countries were present. Meanwhile, a global audience of 22,000 joined in, watching the livestream online.

Throughout CES 2017, the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion will be showing 38 innovative products from 10 companies honored by the Taiwan Excellence Awards. The award winners represent industries such as the IoT, Internet of Vehicles, gaming, wearables, and 3D printing.

Exhibitors include: ASUSTeKTeK, Acer, Thermaltake, ADATA, Transcend, and ComeTrue, among others. The Taiwan Excellence Pavilion is at Booth 21409 LVCC of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
