Software architects from around the world are set to descend on London this October (29th October – 1st November) for the Software Architecture Conference, an event that covers the tools, techniques, and leadership skills needed in the evolving discipline of software architecture.

The four-day event is hosted by O’Reilly Media, the premier source for insight-driven technology and business knowledge and represents a unique educational and networking opportunity for application architects and developers.

The conference, held at central London’s Metropole Hotel, combines a wealth of industry experts and educational resources, together with tutorials and training courses for attendees to learn and advance their career.

Attendees will hone their application and system design skills thanks to a programme that focuses on technical breadth as well as depth. They will learn about the trade-offs, technology options, and engineering practises that are critical to the long-term project success, and will leave armed with knowledge of the latest architectural techniques.

The wide-ranging conference covers architectural fundamentals and best practises; provides a practical look at trending technologies such as microservices, cloud architecture patterns, and chaos engineering; and examines how some of the world’s leading architects are successfully dealing with legacy systems and software.

Speakers at the event include:

  • Maria Gomez, Head of Technology at ThoughtWorks Spain
  • Matt Stine, Chief Technology Officer - Software Architecture at Pivotal
  • Mike Amundsen, Director of API Architecture, API Academy at CA Technologies
  • Allen Holub, Consultant, Holub Associates
  • Liz Rice, Technology Evangelist, Aqua Security

The programme is focused on software architecture and features traditional 50-minutes sessions with longer 90-minute sessions to allow for deeper dives, as well as two day training courses and half-day tutorials to provide in-depth training. The conference is aimed at existing software architects and developers who want to keep up with the latest trends and techniques, senior developers who must make vital architectural decisions, and application architects looking to expand their knowledge portfolio and advance to the next stage of their career.

With such a diverse and supportive community, attendees have ample opportunity to connect with peers: from topic tables at lunch to Architectural Katas, a good-natured team competition, it’s an unrivalled event for meeting friends, making new acquaintances, and enjoying the company of fellow architects.

“Software architecture is a rapidly moving space with tons of innovation,” said Neal Ford, Software Architect at ThoughtWorks and co-chair of the Software Architecture Conference. “The theme for this event is ‘Engineering the Future of Software’ and will focus on the most cutting-edge topics facing architects, developers, and engineers – from serverless to machine learning, continuous delivery to architecture at scale.

“The event is a crucial educational opportunity for anyone working in this field, whatever their experience, but it’s more than that – it’s a unique opportunity for people to network with each other, and to trade ideas with other architects and senior-level technologists. London has never seen an event like it, and we can’t wait to meet the industry’s best brains on 30th October,” concluded Ford.

Software Architecture Conference is co-located with Velocity, another DevOps-focused conference hosted by O’Reilly.
