Farnell element14 plans IoT feature at electronica

Farnell element14 will roll out new development kits, production components and test and measurement products at electronica in Munich (Nov 11-14). The distributor promises over 20 new products will be on show from leading brands including Freescale, TI, Atmel, ST, ADI, AMD, Microchip, Raspberry Pi, XP Power, Tektronix and Weller, as well as newcomers BitScope and Robox.

The Internet of Things (IoT), rapidly emerging a major theme at the show, will feature on the Farnell element14 stand, with a range of products including RIoTboard, a low cost, fully featured single board computer revolutionising developments in the IoT space and Texas Instruments CC3200 Launchpad and CC3100 BoosterPack – a development platform and Wi-Fi device designed to aid the development of faster, easier solutions for the IoT

Farnell element14 will use the show to launch a number of exciting new products including an x86 open source development platform for gaming, digital signage, robotics and advanced DIYers in conjunction with AMD.

The recently launched, very nifty BitScope Micro (pictured) will be on display, a full feature dual channel digital oscilloscope for Raspberry Pi, which Farnell element14 will manufacture and distribute exclusively under a new partnership with BitScope Designs. The product is also an eight channel logic analyser, waveform generator, clock generator and spectrum analyser, all packaged into one low cost, lightweight and water resistant test probe.

Hundreds of development kits will be given away from a variety of suppliers including Freescale and NXP to visitors to the stand in its ‘Dev Kit Dare’ challenge.

There will also be a Dev Kit Trump card tournament where visitors can play for a chance to win a Robox 3D printer, valued at £850.  The first 16 people to turn up to the stand at 4pm (CET) on Wednesday 12th November will be entered into the Tournament and will play in rounds until a winner is found. All participants will take away a limited edition Trumps card box printed by the Robox 3d printer and can stay and enjoy the stand party.

Mike Buffham, Global Head of Product and Pricing, Premier Farnell said: “With new technologies supporting IoT evolving rapidly and traditional boundaries blurring, it has become clear that engineers and purchasing professionals need the distribution industry to be more geared towards what engineers need to innovate and succeed. electronica 2014 is a platform for us to really demonstrate our commitment to working with design engineers through each step of the design process from concept through to manufacture and beyond to maintenance and repair.

“Our stand embodies our unique full service capability, the investments in inventory and pricing models that allow us to better support the low to mid volume production space, and the resources we’ve amassed through our strategic acquisitions of CadSoft, Embest and AVID. By connecting technology, customers and suppliers Farnell element14 is becoming the destination for electronics customers.”

CadSoft will be present on the Farnell element14 stand to demonstrate the latest release of its CadSoft EAGLE PCB design software.

electronica 2014 will see the culmination of the element14 Community’s Forget Me Not Challenge which asked competitors to develop pioneering applications in the field of home monitoring and automation using a core kit featuring popular products: Raspberry Pi, EnOcean Pi, EnOcean Sensor Kit, WiPi and a Tektronix oscilloscope.

Farnell element14 will be running a range of daily challenges and giveaways throughout the show.
