The organisers of the UK Device Developers' Conference have announced that Abstract Solutions will be delivering a presentation, titled Model Driven Development: Benefits and Perils, at this year's event.

The UK Device Developers' Conference is a one-day conference for engineers and computer scientists involved in the development of intelligent systems and devices. It is an event that explores the very latest tools and technologies available and includes a vendor exhibition, half-day technical workshops and a series of informative technical presentations.

Modelling is the designing of software applications before coding. Modelling is an essential part of large software projects, and helpful to medium and even small projects also. Using a model, those responsible for a software development project's success can assure themselves that functionality is complete and correct, end-user needs are met, and programme design supports requirements for scalability, robustness, security, extendibility and other characteristics, before implementation in code renders changes difficult and expensive to make.

Delivering the presentation will be Chris Raistrick, Professional Services Director at Abstract Solutions, and lead author of the book Model Driven Architecture with Executable UML. For the past thirty years, Raistrick has been applying model driven approaches to a wide variety of successfully deployed systems, and has led the modelling activity on a number of strategic projects.

"The relentless growth in system and device complexity and the need to drive down time-to-market and the cost of upgrades is prompting many organisations to migrate from document based, manual system development approaches towards model centric, automated methods of development,” said Chris Raistrick.

“However, although model based approaches offer many strategic advantages to the wise adopter, there are numerous hazards that lie in wait for the unwary. We will discuss how they can be avoided to achieve the advertised rewards of an industrialised model driven development strategy.”

The Device Developers’ Conference is to take place in Reading, Cambridge, Warrington and Uphall (Scotland) during May and June 2015. Abstract Solutions will be presenting at the Reading and Cambridge events. The Conference, including the technical presentations, is free to engineers and technical project managers. A small charge is made for places on the half-day technical workshops.
