Brexit, REACH feature at environment conference

A wide range of topics are on the agenda at the Electrical & Electronic Equipment and the Environment Conference (November 1-2). The theme is meeting Technical and Regulatory Compliance Challenges. Topics range across all issues including Brexit’s impact, Conflict Minerals, RoHs, and REACH.

On the opening day Andrew Britton, Managing Director of Kumi Consulting will address Conflict Minerals and the Due Diligence Lessons learned from an OECD Alignment Assessment.

He will discuss its importance to the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation and the current state of due diligence across five of the largest industry programmes

Brexit will be the subject of three presentations.

Dr Andrew Farmer, Director of Research and Head of Industry at the Institute for European Environmental Policy will kick off proceedings by presenting the Consequences for EU and UK environmental policy.

He will cover What does Untangling UK environmental law relevant to Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation & restriction of Chemicals (REACH) entail? The consequences for future development of UK law relevant to EEE and the Key Signposts to look out for in the Brexit negotiations will also be covered.

Richard Gale, Policy Adviser, Aerospace at ADS Group will explain Brexit Negotiations – Where are wo now and what does it mean for the aerospace and defence sector? The synergies and differences between the EU and UK will be discussed as well as next steps and future timelines.

Customs and Border Policy will be at the heart of a session presented by Susan Morley, Director at Morley Consulting, Training. Export Controls, The Frictionless Border and more will encompass thoughts on Export Control and Compliance described as essential but moving target. Free ports, free zones and free trade agreements and what they really offer will also be discussed.

Looking across the Atlantic will be Lynn Bergeson, Partner at Bergeson and Campbell.

Life in the Trump Lane: Key US policy and regulatory initiatives under the Trump/Pruitt administration will be under discussion.

Topics include TSCA implementation, regulator rollback and the consequences of Executive Order implementation and the response from States and NGOs.

Day two of the conference features a presentation from Johan Nouwen, Head of Unit, Support, Forum and HelpNet Secretariat at the European Chemicals Agency.

He will outline the newly updated ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) guidance on requirements for substances and articles.

Following on from that Dr Craig Kelly, Senior Consultant, REACH, TSGE Consulting will start to focus minds on REACH and the 2018 Deadline.
