Access, the data input technology company, announces a family of AKC programmable keyboards with integral DigitalPersona “U.are.U” fingerprint readers that recognise even the most difficult fingerprints accurately and rapidly, regardless of placement angle.
There are 84 standard keyboards in the product family, with between 42 and 127 keys. All except the 80-key version are available with optional magnetic stripe readers (MSRs) and touchpads are an option on many models. Access offers a rapid configuration service to customise keyboards with special key top layouts, legends and customer logos. Full custom layouts are available to suit specific applications.

Biometric fingerprint readers are increasingly being adopted to boost system security and prevent fraudulent use of terminals in everything from banking to retail outlets. Users merely place their finger on the red illuminated window to activate the reader. On-board electronics encrypt the 512 dpi resolution scanned image before sending it through the USB interface. Built-in intelligence rejects counterfeit and printed fingerprint images.
Configuring and customising a keyboard to its application increases both the speed and accuracy of data input, resulting in greater productivity. Access authored software allows users to create their own configurations quickly and easily. For example, key positions can be configured to produce a single character or a string of characters and adjacent keys can be combined to provide double or quad configurations for the same function. Keys can also be disabled using a key switch lockout cover. A pass-through port is fitted to simplify system maintenance and programming.

The AKC keyboards use switches with a life of over 50 million operations. Their cases are either cool white or grey, to match industry-standard peripherals.
