Cherry has introduced new washable computer input devices aimed at ultra-clean environments such as hospital operating rooms and both clean and dirty industrial areas such as automotive manufacturing plants, food and drink production areas and warehouses. Recent new legislation (UK Health Technical Memorandum 01-05 dental infection control regulations) also makes these products particularly relevant to dental practices. The CHERRY J84-2120 is a backlit keyboard with an integrated pointing device and there are also two new optical mice designated the MW-2800 series.

The CHERRY backlit washable keyboard is compact and has a completely sealed rubber top casing with a NEMA-4 rating. There are no crevices for dirt and germs to lurk unseen and it can be rinsed with cleaning and disinfection fluids, including strong hospital cleaning solutions. The keyboard can be cleaned at any interval convenient to the user and downtime is minimal. To prevent data being sent while the keyboard is being cleaned, there’s a special lock-down mode, indicated by a brightly-lit “Clean” key. Backlighting can be adjusted to one of four different levels depending on user requirements and ambient lighting. Robust and durable, the J84-2120 keyboard has an operating temperature range of -40degC to +70degC and connects via USB cable. It is available in black or blue, with a guide price of around £250. CHERRY MW-2800 series washable optical mice are compact and completely sealed in a silicon-based NEMA-4 rated casing which is comfortable to use. They are easy to wipe down and are impervious to disinfectant and hospital cleaning fluids, sand and dust - again ideal for use in a wide range of medical and industrial environments. Three scroll buttons allow quick and easy page and internet navigation while eliminating bacterial and dirt traps. Operating temperature range is 0degC to +70degC and mean time between failures is 20,000 hours. FCC, CE and RoHS compliant and available in either black or blue, they have a one-year warranty and have a guide price of £60.
