Avago Technologies today announced a new series of high-brightness surface mount (SMT) tri-color light emitting diodes (LEDs) that will enable designers to develop large indoor and outdoor electronic displays that provide sharper and more vivid images and graphics. This new series of high-brightness RGB LEDs from Avago are available in standard PLCC-4 packaging and have been specifically designed to operate in extreme outdoor conditions.

Anglia has set up a dedicated displays division to provide enhanced technical support to its customers, particularly with respect to the integration of display systems. Many of today’s colour displays need external controllers, inverters and drivers, in addition to requiring specialist connectors and cables. Anglia’s displays division, headed by Jackie Kingston, aims to help customers by recommending and supplying suitable combinations of devices to meet the requirements of each application.

Digital Displays has introduced announce a QVGA 2.8in TFT with a multimedia touch screen, featuring a digital RGB 18-bit TTL interface. This TFT display offers a vibrant 200 nit brightness including the installation of the touch panel and a 200:1 contrast ratio. The high resolution and size of this module are perfect for portable multimedia devices, and the addition of OSD’s standard multimedia touch screen which features content icons common to most portable media products is an added bonus.

GDS acquires Clearview Displays

Global Display Solutions (GDS) has announced the acquisition of Clearview Displays LLC, providers of bonded display enhancement services. This acquisition will enable GDS to build on its existing range of display technology while offering superior manufacturing and engineering services to its customers in North America to support fast turnaround times on advanced bonded display services. Under the terms of the acquisition, Clearview Displays will become a subsidiary of GDS, known as GDS Clearview, retaining its staff and headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon and reporting directly to GDS Inc’s US Headquarters in Roscoe, Illinois.

New High brightness surface mount LEDs
A new range of high brightness LEDs from TruOpto has been introduced by Rapid. The LEDs are housed in industry standard PLCC-2 and PLCC-4 cases with luminous intensities of up to 750 millicandela. PLCC-2 cases measuring 3.5 x 2.7 x 1.9mm house single colour LEDs available in red, yellow, blue, green and white. The PLCC-4 option (3.5 x 2.8 x 1.9mm) houses a red, green and a blue chip and by varying the current across the dice, all colours of the spectrum can be achieved.

High resolution 5.7in display modules
Hitachi Display Products Group has introduced the TX14D14VM1BAA as an addition to the current range of 5.7” display modules that includes a wide range of TFT and STN options. The TX14D14 offers 640 x 480 VGA resolution and is form factor compatible with the existing compact TFT and STN modules. Clear, bright colourful images for all lighting conditions are guaranteed with 350cd/m² brightness, a contrast ratio of 350:1 and 262,000 colours.
