Avalue Technology has introduced the ASM-CX700; a fan-less embedded system with a maximum chipset power consumption of only 1W* in a slim package measuring just 25mm high. Thin Clients are popular in many organisations, with large installations common place. ASM-CX700 is both an ideal replacement and alternative that should reduce power consumption.
The ASM-CX700 has also been designed for use in Digital Signage applications, featuring a fully VESA compliant mounting to enable easy integration with displays. Supporting MPEG2/4 with a DVI interface, ASM-CX700 is ready to deliver content rich information. Other features include 7.1ch Audio, integrated LVDS/DVI transmitter, TV-out and optional Dual View which is complimented by a rich array of I/O including dual Gigabit LAN.

“The VIA Eden ULV was the logical choice for our new slim book size PC,” commented Sam Wang, Vice-President of Avalue Technology. “with VIA having brought to market an x86 based processor that does not have a prohibitively high power consumption compared to other offerings, the benefits in terms of versatility, availability of compatible software and hardware, and performance could not be overlooked. Combined with our knowledge, reputation and expertise in embedded design this has enabled us to deliver a new and unique product to the market.”

Described as B5 book sized, ASM-CX700 measures just 182 x 257 x 25mm. The compact embedded system is powered by a single +12Vdc supply and is completely fan-less. Because ASM-CX700 is a fan-less system reliability is high. Instead of a fan, the system temperature is regulated by its own integrated extruded aluminium housing; this passively dissipates heat away from hotspots such as the CPU and main chipset. Furthermore, VIA’s CoolStream architecture minimises power consumption whilst optimising performance. Operational power is then further reduced by the unique PowerSaver technology; this allows the processor to dynamically adjust both frequency and voltage based on users’ requirements.
