At SPS/IPC/Drives, Texas Instruments is the first semiconductor company to integrate an EnDat 2.2 master on its Sitara AM335x ARM Cortex-A8 processors. With this step, TI is advancing the success of the AM335x family for industrial communication by extending the support to encoder protocols. The EnDat 2.2 technology is demonstrated on TI’s AM3359 processor-based Industrial Development Kit at the TI booth 136 in hall 6 at SPS/IPC/Drives.

Benefits of EnDat 2.2##IMAGE_1_R##
•Reduced system costs through pure serial data transmission and integration of sensor evaluation inside the encoder
•High positioning accuracy, speed stability and dynamics through high resolution of the encoder in combination with high transmission rates
•Increased availability of facilities through the electronic ID label, automatic self-configuration and online-diagnostics

Benefits of TI’s Sitara ARM-based processors:
•Simplify the design of servo drives and reduces the costs by eliminating the need for an external FPGA
•Optimize motion control cycle time due to on-chip integration
•Two new industrial hardware development tools offer comprehensive software and easier analog signal chain solution for faster time to market

“One essential advantage of EnDat 2.2 is its broad range of available absolute and incremental encoders,” explains Herbert Reiter, Senior Product Manager, HEIDENHAIN. “This permits optimum support of applications in the areas of automation, the electronics industry and machine tools.”

“With the integration of EnDat 2.2, TI is able to further strengthen our portfolio for industrial automation solutions,” said Peter Peisker, European Director Embedded Processing, TI. “Moreover, with our extended AM335x solutions, we’re supporting the industry trend toward integrated digital encoder feedback systems.”
