Renesas and its Alliance Partner, port, have announced efficient multi-protocol connectivity solutions and the associated design tools for the RX64M MCUs. The PROFINET (CCA / CCB RT1), Ethernet/IP and CANopen software stacks have been ported to the 32-bit high-performance MCU group.

Comprised of 112 products with high-speed flash memory clocked at 120MHz, the RX64M group offers a universal platform for implementing leading field bus and communication technologies. The MCUs feature RAM of up to 512KB, embedded flash of up to 4MB, up to three CAN interface channels and two integrated Ethernet MACs. The RXv2 CPU core, with 4.25CoreMark/MHz performance, enables a high level of real-time processing power.

The multi-protocol solution enables the RX64M devices to meet requirements for manufacturing, automation, process and global communication industries. The MCUs allow system developers to develop powerful industrial applications with low power consumption and a range of communication functions. When executing code from integrated zero-wait state flash memory, the 32-bit MCUs produce a total computing power of more than 240DMIPS. An integrated 32-bit multiplier, single-precision FPU and extended 32-bit barrel shifter provide high processing performance for computing operations.

The stacks and drivers provided by port meet stringent and highly efficient coding and documentation standards, ensuring that CANopen only needs a very small amount of memory while enabling high execution speeds and easy-to-read code. Active support for device certification (PNO, EPSG, CiA etc.) allows customers to always receive stack and driver versions that comply with the most recent standards.

Bernd Westhoff, RX Product Manager, Renesas Electronics Europe, comments: “The evolution and connectivity of industrial equipment in manufacturing and building automation have prompted significant growth in products that include comprehensive communications technologies. Our RX64M products are a response to this trend, as well as to the need for a large memory capacity to support Ethernet, CAN, USB and many other communications functions. Together with our Alliance Partner, port, we can provide customers with the necessary software stacks for CANopen, PROFINET and Ethernet/IP implementations, as well as the peace of mind of professional support.”

PROFINET, Ethernet/IP and CANopen stacks and drivers are available now. POWERLINK and EtherCAT solutions are also optionally available.
