Green Hills Software today announced that Megger, a premier provider of electrical test equipment and measuring instruments for electrical power applications, is using Green Hills Software's INTEGRITY real-time operating system (RTOS) and MULTI integrated development environment (IDE), for its PAT300 series of portable appliance testers.
“After conducting a comprehensive review of available operating systems, Green Hills Software’s INTEGRITY emerged as the most suitable OS overall, from both a technical and commercial perspective,” commented Tinku Halim, software development engineer at Megger. “The PAT300 is the first Megger series to incorporate INTEGRITY and, based on our extremely positive experience, we are using it for other products currently in development.”

Megger selected the INTEGRITY RTOS following an exhaustive evaluation of the capabilities and attributes of available operating systems. These were compared within a weighted system that considered relative merits including code footprint size, boot-up time, POSIX-compliance, development tool integration, and memory management unit (MMU) support. The INTEGRITY RTOS’ ability to support virtual memory with an MMU was important for maximizing product reliability. It enables process separation, which leads to greater system stability in the event of one process failing. The compatibility of Green Hills Software’s INTEGRITY and MULTI development tool chain with CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering) tools simplified Megger’s development process and this was another determining factor in the company’s choice.

The Megger PAT300 series is an easily portable desktop appliance tester for testing the safety of portable electrical equipment to enable the users to meet the requirements of the UK IEE Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing Electrical Equipment. PAT300 supports all required tests, including Class I and II, IEC power leads, extensions leads and complete tests for portable RCDs. The device also supports the electrical safety testing requirements of DIN VDE 0701-0702.
