High performance computing engine accelerates OEM development

The Arcom QUANTUM PXA270 based SO-DIMM format SBC module gives OEMs an extremely low power, high performance and cost effective computer component for easy integration into their application specific motherboards. Its ready to run potential eliminates the work and risk involved with designing the complex processor core and operating system element. Designers can focus on the I/O and interface features unique to their market application.
The PXA270 processor incorporates Intel XScale® micro architecture, multimedia acceleration, rich peripheral integration and sophisticated power management. It supports wireless clients with the latest Intel mobile technology. The QUANTUM module combines this with a wide range of features, making it ideal for mobile and handheld devices, power sensitive embedded communications, asset monitoring and compact MMI solutions.



Powerful multimedia components include a full VGA flat panel controller, an AC97 compatible audio codec device and 4-wire touch screen support. Serial communications I/O is comprehensive, with five serial ports, which variously offer Bluetooth, full modem-control and high speed communications to 921.6 Kbaud. USB 1.1 Host and Client interfaces are also provided.



A QUANTUM Ethernet Module (QEM) mounts onto the QUANTUM module IDE connector to provide a 10/100 Ethernet port complete with magnetics and RJ45 connector. Other I/O includes SSP (Synchronous Serial Protocol) ports, up to 78 bits of GPIO, I²C bus and PWM outputs. A JTAG debug and test interface is also provided.



The QUANTUM supports PXA270 processor speeds to 520MHz, onboard soldered Flash memory to 64MB and 64MB SDRAM. The QUANTUM is delivered with either a Windows CE 5.0 or Linux 2.6 image preinstalled into the onboard Flash. These include drivers for all the QUANTUM I/O.



Arcom also provides a QUANTUM base board to accept the QUANTUM SBC module to become a complete Windows CE or Linux development kit. The board provides interfaces and connectors to all the module’s I/O as well as memory card and wireless devices. The base board can be used in production systems as well as for prototyping. However, Arcom provides comprehensive documentation and assistance to OEMs wishing to design a base board efficiently linking the QUANTUM module to their particular application.
