Green Hills Software announced the availability of its embedded software solutions for the Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) Sitara™ AM3505 and AM3517 microprocessors (MPUs) based on the ARM® Cortex™-A8. Green Hills Software’s ARM-optimized solution includes the INTEGRITY® real-time operating system (RTOS), MULTI® integrated development environment (IDE), optimizing C/C++ compilers and Green Hills Probe. Green Hills Software brings more than 28 years of experience in the embedded market to TI’s new Sitara MPUs, enabling developers to create and deploy reliable, high-performance products for industrial control, automation, transportation, medical, and a wide variety of other embedded applications in the least amount of time and at the lowest cost.
“Green Hills provides our customers with comprehensive embedded software solutions for TI’s wide breadth of scalable ARM-based offerings across Stellaris, DaVinci, OMAP and now the Sitara family of TI processors,” said Amichai Ron, industrial automation business manager, TI. “The Green Hills tools and operating system are a great fit for our customers designing with Sitara MPUs who can take advantage of the reliability and high performance needed for industrial applications.”

INTEGRITY for TI’s Sitara ARM Cortex-A8 MPUs
The unique architecture of the INTEGRITY RTOS achieves unprecedented levels of security, safety and reliability for applications in industrial control, automation, transportation, medical and other industries. The INTEGRITY RTOS is the foundation for Green Hills Software’s Platform for Industrial Safety, with certification by TÜV and Exida to the stringent IEC 61508 safety standard at Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL 3), and also for the Green Hills Platform for Medical Devices, providing artifacts for the operating system to support FDA approval submissions.

“We are pleased to be adding comprehensive support for TI’s family of Sitara processors,” commented Dan Mender, vice president business development, Green Hills Software. “With their excellent mix of on-chip peripherals including CAN, Ethernet, USB and graphics, and incredibly low power consumption, the AM3517 and AM3505 are great MPUs for embedded designs in the industrial and medical markets.”

Integrated platform solutions based on TI’s AM3517 MPU showcasing Nokia’s Qt embedded graphics, IXXAT’s CANopen stack and 3S’s CoDeSys SoftPLC Runtime System are being demonstrated today.

In addition to the INTEGRITY real-time operating system, the integrated Green Hills Software development solution for TI’s Sitara AM35x MPUs consists of the following components:
• Comprehensive portfolio of embedded communications, graphics, file systems, and other middleware
• MULTI integrated development environment – providing the leading software development tool set for embedded software developers
• Green Hills optimized C/C++ compilers – generating highest-performance and smallest-footprint code for the ARM architecture
• Green Hills Probe – providing low-level control of the ARM core for device driver development, board bring-up, and system debugging

TI’s Sitara AM35x MPUs
The AM3505 and AM3517 are MPUs based on ARM Cortex-A8 cores running at 500 MHz. These processors allow manufacturers to quickly bring to market devices featuring multiple connectivity options, rich user interfaces and high processing performance at sub one-Watt power levels. The AM3505 and AM3517 integrate numerous peripherals including Ethernet, UART, CAN, SPI, I2C, USB and a rich graphics display subsystem. For more information, please visit www.ti.com/sitara-devnet.
