Esterel Technologies, the provider of model-based solutions for the development of mission and safety-critical systems has expanded its open and flexible SCADE Suite development environment to include integration with the Eclipse™ platform and Wind River’s Workbench software development platform. SCADE Suite now supports the Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF) by providing a Java-based Applications Programming Interface (API) that enables access and connectivity to the SCADE Suite Models from other Eclipse-based tools. This API is provided in addition to the existing TCL API already in place with SCADE Suite. This technology integration gives SCADE Suite users the freedom to work with other tools in the development chain that support the Eclipse Framework, including Integrated Development Environments such as Wind River Workbench.
Esterel SCADE Suite gives software developers the ability to efficiently design, implement, deploy, and test mission and safety-critical applications. Furthermore, Esterel SCADE Suite is the only Model-Based Development (MBD) solution that provides DO-178B qualified code generation for the C language up to level A, IEC 61508 code generation qualified up to SIL 3 and EN 50128 code generation qualified up to SIL 4.

As a result of a deeper cooperation between Esterel Technologies and Wind River, SCADE Suite has been validated with the Wind River Workbench Eclipse-based platform. This solution expands the existing partnership between the companies where SCADE Suite generated code has been tested on the VxWorks and VxWorks 653 operating systems. Now, mission and safety-critical application developers can efficiently utilize SCADE Suite and Wind River Workbench from concept through production-quality code generation, deployment, and testing in a tightly-coupled, optimized development workflow. Integration with Workbench also enables an immediate integration with a wide choice of Wind River Aerospace and Defense tool chain partners that also support the Eclipse foundation.

SCADE Suite EMF will be available in Q3 2008. Esterel Technologies and Wind River have worked together in development, marketing, and sales of this integrated solution.

“Customers that are developing mission and safety-critical systems are always looking for ways to make significant productivity boosts to their development and certification efforts. The open flexibility of SCADE Suite and its highly efficient qualified code generation capabilities will provide an incremental boost in productivity to complement our powerful Workbench development environment and VxWorks 653 asynchronous update and role-based efficiencies,” said Rob Hoffman, general manager of aerospace and defense, Wind River. “This integration now enables industry-leading productivity in DO-178B / ED-12B design, development, test and deployment.”

“Wind River has been instrumental to our success in the development of this solution required by our mutual customer base,” said Eric Bantegnie, President and CEO of Esterel Technologies. “Our support and commitment to the Eclipse platform will provide huge dividends to our customers requiring such an efficient yet flexible workflow.”
